Clemency in Focus:
Why the Time to Prepare Is Now
Over the past 18 months, President Trump has used his clemency power more than almost any recent president. Reporting puts his second-term total above 1,700 people, largely because of the mass January 6 relief. The grants have also gone beyond that group. They include corruption-related cases, white-collar offenses, drug and firearms sentences, and environmental violations. The most recent wave came in early September 2026, when 30 people received pardons or commutations. Among them were Emory Jones, a Roc Nation executive who had served nearly 16 years on a drug conviction, and Philadelphia labor leader John Dougherty.
The pace and variety of these grants lead us to believe they will continue through the final two years of the President's term. President Trump has also spoken openly about his view of the pardon power. Alice Marie Johnson, the White House pardon adviser, has publicly voiced gratitude and enthusiasm for the grants so far, and we are encouraged by her optimism about future ones.
Timing matters. A typical clemency request can take about a year to move from preparation to decision, and many never move at all. A congressional analysis found that only 17 recipients through December 2025 had come through the ordinary Department of Justice application process. Most grants are highly discretionary. A well-prepared, well-documented petition is therefore the best way to get a case in front of decision-makers. If you or a loved one may be eligible, the time to start your application is now, not after the window narrows.
That is where SamaritanProjects can help. We have experience with the filing and tracking process. We help applicants gather records, tell their story clearly and accurately, meet submission requirements, and follow the status of a petition so nothing is missed along the way. Preparing a petition is complex and emotional, and you don't have to do it alone.
No one can promise a particular outcome, and clemency remains entirely at the President's discretion. But we believe more grants are coming, and those who prepare early will be best positioned. Contact SamaritanProjects today to begin your application and take the first step toward a second chance.
